About Us

Welcome to Uniquegifts

Welcome to Uniquegifts. We don’t just sell products – we offer masterpieces created by the hands and souls of the Vietnamese people.

Every element of our work originates from Vietnamese soil: from natural fibers like loofah, pineapple, banana, rattan, bamboo, sedge, and silk, to upcycled materials like fabric scraps and wood offcuts.

The true value of our products lies in their creators: artisans, craftsmen, and beauty lovers—people who cherish culture, embrace creativity, and are passionate about protecting the environment. They do not merely manufacture; they infuse each piece with positive life energy for the recipient.

To curate these works, we have traveled far, met many people, and patiently sought out authentic Vietnamese materials—a challenging but deeply inspiring journey.

Uniquegifts is more than a gift shop; it is a space for sustainable practice. We say no to single-use items, spread a green lifestyle, and empower the community—especially fresh graduates, women, and people with disabilities—to join us on this journey.

Each creation at Uniquegifts is completely handcrafted, unique, and tells its own story. We invite you to discover more than just a gift—an authentic Vietnamese experience.

The Inspiration Behind Uniquegifts

Uniquegifts was conceived during a meaningful time in Australia for our founder, Tran Thi Kim Thanh. Her late mother-in-law—a sophisticated and thoughtful woman—took her to second-hand shops in the Picnic Point area (NSW, Australia). There, Thanh discovered beautiful, one-of-a-kind items at affordable prices. Her mother-in-law once encouraged her to buy a $30 leather bag because it was “Made in Australia.” She emphasized this with great pride, recalling a time when goods were made by Australians, on Australian soil, carrying a distinct soul. She lamented that nowadays, most goods are mass-produced in third countries, losing their uniqueness.

From that moment, Thanh fell in love with second-hand goods—not just for the economy, but for the spirit of thriftiness and waste reduction her mother-in-law passed down. Her husband, her greatest supporter, introduced her to close family friends like Adam Naylor. During a visit to Adam’s homestay, The Blak Shak on the Sunshine Coast, they visited a second-hand market. Adam bought a rattan picnic basket, sharing that what he loved most was its “uniqueness.” Since then, “Unique” became Thanh’s favorite word.

Upon returning to Vietnam, she initially dreamed of building a second-hand retail system, a topic she explored in her Master’s thesis at Fulbright University to promote product lifecycles and sustainable living. Though that specific idea didn’t fit her thesis framework, her desire to do something for Vietnam and sustainability remained.

She thought about the word “Unique”—not just in old items, but in the essence of Vietnam: craft villages, local products, and folk memories that were being swept away by a wave of counterfeits and low-quality goods. She realized that a true Ao Dai is a source of pride only when it is made from Vietnamese silk and woven by Vietnamese hands. She saw that “waste”—plastic bags, beer cans, seashells, or wood scraps—could be transformed into unique art by talented craftsmen. She saw the untapped potential of loofah, pineapple, and banana fibers. Supported by her husband, she turned these thoughts into action.

Uniquegifts was born from that vision—a sincere and inspiring project to connect Vietnamese materials and people, creating authentic, unique gifts that tell the story of Vietnam in the most sustainable and memorable way.
